Prof. S.M. Singh
Interest Area and Specialization: Earthworm Ecology, Vermiculture & Vermi-
composting and Organic Farming
h Worked on soil-worm relationships of Metaphireposthuma and Eutyphoeuswaltoni (two
common earthworms) with an emphasis on soil-alterations, worm-castings relationships, mortality, and
growth rate of earthworms as well as on the agricultural use of earthworms and their castings.
h Did work on the preference of food (using different leaf - litter) and soil (of different pH) of the local soil
earthworms and how much quantitative difference is brought about by different biomass of earthworms,
seasons, and duration. Mineralogical alterations of various soils by these 2 local earthworms are also
quantified.
h A Vermicomposting Centre has been established at the University Campus as an extension unit for free and
regular training programs especially for farmers of Rohilkhand region of Uttar Pradesh with focus on organic
farming, vermicomposting, and importance of switching off chemical farming for sustainable agricultural
development.
