Interest Area and Specialization:
h Pharmacology, Toxicology, Learning & Memory, Development of Drug Screening Methods,
Drug Evaluation Techniques. Currently engaged in screening of herbal extracts for the
treatment of cardiovascular complications related to thrombosis. Thrombosis is the
formation of a blood clot inside a blood vessel, obstructing the flow of blood. It is responsible for many
cardiovascular problems including unstable angina, myocardial infarction, postangioplasty occlusion &
stroke.
h The main aim is to screen out and develop an alternative therapy to treat thrombosis. The perception is
that conventional antithrombotic medicines cannot successfully treat thrombosis and that many of them are
ineffective at particular disease states and have marked side effects. The plant kingdom represents a rich
store house of active compounds, many of which have been used for medicinal purposes. The major problem
today is that the existing methods for the evaluation of antithrombotic agents are either surgery based or
are complicated. Therefore, a simple, quick & foolproof alternative technique for the preclinical evaluation
of newly developed antithrombotic agents are being developed which will prove to be a boon for alternative
therapy to treat thrombosis.
